More efficient wholesale voice traffic management with XCarrier Cloud from Carrier Call AG

Hutchison Drei Austria GmbH (www.drei.at) is a leading telecommunications provider in Austria and part of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited. Drei operates one of the most modern 4G and 5G networks in the country and offers innovative products and services for private and business customers. With a focus on digitalization, cloud services and IoT, Drei is actively shaping the future of communication. The company employs around 1,500 people and serves more than 4 million customers.

The initial situation

In the wholesale area, Drei was using an existing voice traffic management system that was no longer proactively managed and no longer met the increasing requirements. The aim was to replace this system and ensure more efficient and transparent day-to-day operations in the wholesale area with minimal personnel deployment.

The solution

Carrier Call AG was commissioned to replace the old system with the XCarrier Cloud solution. A managed service model was chosen in which the XCarrier system is operated in the cloud by Carrier Call and continuously developed further. The suite is hosted in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), enabling a secure, high-performance and scalable environment.

The implementation

The data setup, including master dial codes and price lists, was carried out within a very short space of time in close collaboration with Drei's wholesale experts. The final switch to XCarrier Cloud System took place in March 2025. The existing processes and interfaces were seamlessly integrated into the new system. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the outputs - such as price lists and least cost routing (LCR) exports - corresponded to the previous standard in order to ensure a smooth transition for internal and external stakeholders. New Origin Based Rating (OBR) functionality was introduced and automated to ensure that traffic can be mapped and billed correctly at all times. In addition, automated interfaces were implemented, in particular to the existing billing system. This reduced manual effort and increased efficiency in other departments.

The results

By using XCarrier Cloud, Drei's wholesale team benefits from a highly flexible, intuitive system. The calculations are fast, transparent and comprehensible. Processes are systematically mapped and provide optimum support for operations.

The next steps

The automated import of wholesale billing data from XCarrier into the existing billing system is currently being tested. Further steps in the digital transformation are planned and can be called up by Drei as required.
